Bloodworms (<i>Sanguinicola</i>)

Symptoms

Small black spots (Fins)
Gills pale
Instead of a normal bright red colour the gills are very pale in colour.
Listless and lethargic
Fish moves very lazily in water, much less than normal, lacks interest.

Causes

A digenetic trematode parasite, living in the circulatory system of its host. It needs snails as an intermediate host. Typically infects carp, tench and pike.

Prognosis

No known cure, most infected fish won't thrive.
