Henneguya or Milky Flesh (<i>Henneguya salminicola</i>)

Symptoms

Gasping at surface
Gasping, as if there is not enough Oxygen.

Rubbing/scratching
Fish constantly rubs or scratches itself against any object available.

White brown Maggot-Like Clusters
Easy to see female parasites with naked eye

Severe Gill damage
The attachment of the Gill lice causes major damage to gill filaments

Stops feeding
Fish often stop feeding entirely

Knotlike white pimples - skin
Skin shows a number of knotlike white raised pimples.

Respiration rapid
Fish is breathing very fast, much faster than is normal.

Temperature elevated
Temperature is higher than the normal for these fish, or usual temperature

White nodules on gills
Gills show small nodules of a raised kind.

Causes

A common myxosporidian parasite. Normally does not cause mortality, only when infecting fish in large numbers.

Prognosis

Usually no harm done to fish.
