Linolenic acid deficiency

Symptoms

Abnormal swimming - streaks
Fish swims in short bursts, then stops.
Fins frayed or ragged
Fins look as if they are rotting away, giving eroded appearance.
Faded colours
Colours of fish look washed out compared to normal.
Growth poor
Parasite infested fish show very slow or no growth, as parasite is taking the food.
Listless and lethargic
Fish moves very lazily in water, much less than normal, lacks interest.

Causes

Lack of Linolenic Acid in diet.

Prognosis

Linolenic Acid is vital for good fish growth, & fish need as much as 1% Linolenic Acid in their diet, to achieve optimum growth. If corrected symptoms will quickly disappear.
