Marine gill flukes (Microcotyle)

Symptoms

Black spots on inside of gills
When the opercula of the fish are opened in a net black spots are evident which can be seen on the gills with the naked eye.
Fins folded
The fins of the fish remain in a closed position due to discomfort.
Respiration rapid
Fish is breathing very fast, much faster than is normal.
Rubbing/scratching
Fish constantly rubs or scratches itself against any object available.
Skin turbidity
Skin shows an over all turbidity or haze.
Salinity full salt water
Normal full salinity salt water.

Causes

Parasitic monogean flukes.

Prognosis

Usually there is enough time to treat and rid fish of the infestation, as fatalities take some weeks to develop.
