Uronema marinum (<i>Uronema marinum</i>)

Symptoms

Bloody inflammation of mouth
Mouth area shows very bloody lesions and bleeding.
Lesions on belly
Belly of fish shows large lesions.
Rubbing/scratching
Fish constantly rubs or scratches itself against any object available.
Scales protruding
The scales are raised outwardly protruding.
Ulcers - irregular
Irregular shaped ulcers are evident on the skin.
Cloudy Eyes
Total area of eyes becomes clouded.
Red necrotic lesions - skin
The skin shows red necrotic lesions.
Respiration difficult
The fish shows evidence of difficulty in breathing.
Skin turbidity
Skin shows an over all turbidity or haze.
White necrotic lesions - skin
The skin shows white necrotic lesions.
Breathing at surface
Fish stays at surface usually at an inclined angle and breathes or sucks air.
Hanging at surface
Fish stays at water surface all the time.
Salinity full salt water
Normal full salinity salt water.
Skin excessive sliminess
Skin shows mucous and slime far in excess of normal.
Very agitated
Fish rushes around the tank or pond in an abnormal manner.
Hiding abnormally
Fish hides behind rocks or suchlike, appearing seldom if ever.
Listless and lethargic
Fish moves very lazily in water, much less than normal, lacks interest.

Causes

Ciliated parasitic Protozoan. viz Uronema marinum.

Prognosis

Fish with bleeding wounds are beyond treatment, and should be destroyed. No effective treatment is known.
