Symptoms
Generalized oedema
Body is swollen all over giving balloon-like appearance to fish.
Muscular atrophy
Muscles of fish show evident wasting away.
Corneal opacity
Cornea of eye becomes totally opaque.
Growth poor
Parasite infested fish show very slow or no growth, as parasite is taking the food.
Loss of balance
Fish keeps falling from its attempted swimming pattern.
Reluctant to feed
Fish comes to eat but with evident lack of appetite.
Spasms - convulsions
Fish appears to be having a fit, jerking and twisting abnormally.
Causes
Lack of essential vitamin thiamine in diet.
Prognosis
Excellent if diet corrected.
